Margaret Jean Lawrence

Margaret Jean “Peggy” Lawrence, 81, of Monett, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022, while at the Roaring River Health and Rehab Center in Cassville.
Lawrence was born on July 26, 1940 in Springfield, daughter of the late Glen and Fern (DeGeere) Scroggins. She attended schools in Springfield and later furthered her education at Crowder College, where she earned an accounting degree. She had ventured into several different careers including working for Foremost Dairy in Springfield, a bank in Kansas City, Wal-Mart in Monett, Thompson’s Pharmacy in Pierce City and lastly, Moore’s Department Store in Aurora. She had been a member of the Covenant Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon until her health declined several years ago.
Lawrence was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Glenda Maydole; one great-grandson, Gavin Wellbaum; one sister-in-law, Alta Scroggins; and one brother-in-law, David Cargill.
She is survived by her daughter, Bobbie Hunnell (Doug), of Pierce City; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Tom Scroggins, of Guthrie, Okla.; three sisters, Judy Hargis, of Buffalo, Susan Cargill, of Fair Grove, and Joni Fenske (Rick), of Pierce City; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services to celebrate her life were at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022 at Buchanan Funeral Home with Reverend Scott Hawkins officiating. Interment followed in the Pierce City Cemetery. The family received friends from 2 p.m. until service time on Saturday. Memorial contributions have been suggested to Haven of the Ozarks in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
