Marilyn Jean Long

Marilyn Jean Long, 79, of Monett, passed away on Monday, Dec. 27, 2021.
Long was born on Feb. 21, 1942 in Pierce City, at her family’s home, the only daughter born to the late William Marion Hunnell and Luella Elva (Smith) Hunnell.
Long has been in the Monett and Pierce City area all of her life, she graduated from Pierce City High School. Following her years in school, Long worked at the garment factory before spending many years working on the family farm. She had been a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Pierce City.
On Jan. 18, 1964 in the First Baptist Church of Pierce City, Long married Billie Joe Long. To this union, four children were born. They were married for over 52 years.
Long is survived by her three sons, all of Monett, Larry Long (Anna), David Long (Angela) and Chris Long (Kayla); one daughter, Cathy Long, of Monett; eight granddaughters, one great grandson; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Long was preceded in death by her husband, Billie Joe, as well as her parents William and Luella Hunnell.
Funeral services to celebrate her life were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 31, 2021 at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Kings Prairie Cemetery. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Kings Prairie Cemetery in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
