Marjorie Lee Webb

Marjorie Lee Webb, 102, loving aunt, great-aunt, great-great aunt, educator, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, in Dallas, Texas. Marjorie was born in Miller, Missouri, on October 14, 1919, to Warren Lee and Fay (Richesin) Webb.
Marjorie’s legacy began as a bossy big sister, later as a woman who became both an advocate for herself and a lifelong learner, all of which were fundamental to her ability to help those less fortunate. She became a professor of law but found her calling as a high school teacher in Debate, English and Government. She was known for believing in the value of democracy, and the importance of instilling pride in our country and its best civic values.
Marjorie’s long life was full of many accomplishments. She began her commitment to public service while attending Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. At age 24, she received a Presidential Appointment from Franklin D. Roosevelt to oversee the US Post Office in Miller. She was the only female faculty member at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law and the first person elected to act as Trustee to the Kansas Public Employee Retirement System as Teacher Representative. Marjorie was the first woman to be elected head of the Democratic Party for Johnson County, Kansas, where she served 20 years advising and directing candidates. In 2017, Marjorie was inducted to The Kansas Teacher Hall of Fame. Her contributions included the authorizing of an amendment to the National Education Association Constitution and serving on the NEA Peace and Justice Caucus. Marjorie always referred to herself as “self-reliant” because she knew she could take care of both herself and others.
In 2013, she moved to Dallas, Texas, to become a vital part of the lives of her great-great nephews, Welzie, Jett, and Cale Jemente, and later Miller (named in honor of the family’s hometown) and great-great niece, Mary Catherine Jemente.
Marjorie is survived by two sisters-in-law, Juanita Webb of Fort Worth, Texas and Suzanne Webb of Ashburn, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews (including greats and great-greats), plus too many friends to count.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Warren, and Fay; three brothers, Welzie Webb, Robert Webb, and Murray Webb and nephew Michael Lee Webb.
A graveside service under the direction of the Morris-Leiman-Mosher Funeral Home in Miller, was at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 30, 2022, at the Webb Cemetery west of Miller.
