Mark J. Cooper

Mark J. Cooper, 88, of Monett, passed away, Sept. 21, 2018, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, after a brief illness. He was born Feb.19, 1930, in Anderson, to the late Glen and Marcella (Jarmin) Cooper. Cooper graduated from Anderson High School and continued his education at Joplin Junior College. He had served in the Missouri National Guard. Cooper was a Financial Manager for Thorco Manufacturing in Lamar, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monett, where he served as a deacon. He also served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Lamar. He was a past president of the Lamar rotary club, a coach of the Lamar little league program, and a past president of Monett Kiwanis Club. Mark enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Tigers football. In 1951, he married Fern Pratt
Survivors include: his wife; daughters Connie (Kelley) Curbow of Monett, Terri Cooper of Monett and Ellen (David) Dhooghe Parsons, Kan.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Cooper was preceded in death by: his parents; brother Edward Cooper; and sister True Davidson.
Funeral services were held Sept. 25, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Monett. Interment was held at Peace Valley Cemetery in Anderson. Memorials have been requested to the American Diabetes Association or First Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett.
