Mary Lou Thach

Mary Lou (Underwood) Thach, age 94, of Au- rora, Missouri, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday afternoon, September 28, 2021. She was born October 16, 1926, in Au- rora, the daughter of William Eugene and Sophia Jane (Rice) Underwood.
She was a 1944 graduate of Aurora High School and attended William Woods Col- lege. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 70 years, where she and her husband were very active. They volunteered to place flags on the veterans’ graves at Maple Park Cemetery for many years. She was also a longtime partner in the 8 & 40 organization, Salon 390 holding many leadership positions over the years.
Mary Lou worked for Charles White Motors in Aurora and in later years she took care of chil- dren in her home, still maintaining friendships with those grown children. She was passionate about her hometown, never missing city council meetings for years. She volunteered at voting precincts and encouraged us all to vote. She was currently a member of Elm Branch Chris- tian Church and was also a long-time member of First Christian Church in Aurora. She would read her Bible each morning upon waking and kept a list of favorite scriptures which touched her heart. “Mamaw” loved to make quilts and knitted many baby hats and blankets which she donated to Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. She spent many hours in her last year’s sewing and making beautiful items for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
On August 6, 1951, she married E. Jack Thach in Saint Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1994.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherrie Malone and husband, Wayne of Katy, Texas; son, Michael Thach and wife, Mona of Aurora, Missouri and son, Jeff Thach of Aurora, Missouri; six grandchildren, Nicholas Thach and wife, Christy of Webster Groves, Missouri, Spencer Thach and wife, Danielle of Glenpool, Oklahoma, Ellie Melissa McLean of San Marcos, Texas, Star Malone of San Marcos, Texas, Cherish Kim and husband, Michael of Katy, Texas and Lucas Thach and wife, Brandy of Elsey, Missouri. She also leaves behind ten great-grandchildren, Addison, William, Olivia and Amelia Thach, Vincent Kim, Jordan, Madison, Zoe, Landon and Bishop Thach and many friends.
Her parents William Eugene and Sophia, husband E. Jack and grandson Jack Michael Thach as well as dear cousins Janet and Neal Anderson preceded her in death.
A graveside service under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora.
Memorial donations may be made payable to the Missouri Veterans Home Activities Fund in Mount Vernon, Missouri, in care of the funeral home.
