A pair of Cardinals gang tackle a Comet ball carrier early in the first quarter Friday night.

It has been a tough go for the Miller Cardinals football team this season and the regular season finale didn’t prove to be any different as the third-ranked team in Class 1, Marionville, took it to Miller, 42-6.
Marionville jumped out quickly with a 53-yard touchdown on the opening drive to take a 6-0 lead. Comets All-State quarterback Wil Carlton managed to pick off a Miller pass that set up another touchdown run from the Comets to go up 14-0 midway through the opening quarter. After a Miller punt, they got to Carlton and intercepted the star quarterback for the Cardinals first of two picks. However, the Comets were able to extend the lead to 20-0 before the half.
The Cardinals were able to find the end zone in the second half behind a touchdown pass from Nate Hill to Beau Hall, but that was the lone cause for celebration for the Cardinals Friday night, as Marionville easily defeated the host team.
Nate Hill completed five passes and threw a second half touchdown, while Caden Calvin led all Miller rushers with 78 yards on the ground on 12 carries. Owen Pritchett also got one carry for 8 yards, as Beau Hall led the receivers with two catches for 15 yards and a touchdown. Miller's Brady Johnson also caught two passes for three yards and Jarod Lung caught his lone target for a yard, but suffered an injury early in the opening quarter.
Miller moves to 1-7 on the year and things won’t get any easier for Miller as they will get a rematch with the Comets in the opening round of the Class 1 District 3 tournament, Friday night at Bill Redus Field in Marionville.
