Mt’neers take fifth in annual Bill O’Dell Tourney

The Mt’neers struggled to get going in a loaded Bill O’Dell Tournament last week in Carthage as they went 1-3 against some of the best out west. The tournament kicked off against a good 6-2 Nevada squad that jumped on the Mt’neers early and took game one 12-2. Mt. Vernon bounced back Wednesday and played Carl Junction very competitively but lost 5-4.
Carthage was up next and it was another competitive game, but the Tigers got the last laugh late, winning 16-5. This set up a date with Seneca in the consolation game. Mt. Vernon jumped out early and never looked back as the Mt’neers defeated the Indians, 16-6.
The week moves Mt. Vernon to 5-5 on the year with a busy week ahead. Their matchup Monday against Clever, who Mt. Vernon has already defeated, was rained out and won’t be made up. They are set to play at Reeds Spring, Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. before returning home Thursday against Marshfield at 4:30 p.m.
