Mt. Vernon Community Theatre to perform fall musical "Nunsense"

Mt. Vernon Community Theatre’s fall play looks a little different this year. Previous seasons have seen big summer musicals, and the fall performance slot was reserved for non-musical comedies or dramas. But with no summer musical on their schedule in 2018, MVCT found itself with a new and exciting set of choices.
“The last big musical we did was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat last summer” says MVCT president Matt Teel. “We love doing those big shows, and involving so many kids and families and new people. But there are so many other musicals, with small casts, that we always wished we could do too.”
“We decided that if we weren’t doing the big musical in the summer, maybe we could do one of those great smaller shows,” explains vice-president David Kloppenborg. “We already had the fall slot, and we have some amazing singers in our community, so we decided to go for it.”
The musical they chose for fall 2018 was Nunsense, a comedy featuring five women. “Even with such a small cast, we still got a great mix of seasoned performers and new faces,” says director Anne Bryan. “We had a lot of hard choices to make with the casting, but we ended up with a great group of women who can sing, act, and be really, really funny. I think our audience is going to have a great time!”
Nunsense is the story of five nuns, members of the Little Sisters of Hoboken, who perform a fundraiser to bury four nuns who have died and are currently being held in the convent freezer. The cast features Melanie Kloppenborg of Miller, Sonia Kew of Monett, Sarah Gripka of Mt. Vernon, Barbara Burgio of Springfield, and Carole Wade of Carthage.
