The Mt. Vernon girls golf season ended last week in Bolivar at the Class 2 state championships, as they shot a combined 881 for the two-round tournament. The Lady Mt’neers as a team improved their score by 33 strokes on the second day, going from a 457 on day one, to a 424.
Junior Kenadi Killingsworth led the Lady Mt’neers finishing 26th shooting a 193 for the tournament improving from a 102 in the first round to 91 in the second. This was Killingsworth’s third trip to the state tournament, improving from a 216 in 2020 and finishing slightly behind her 190, seventh-place finish last year.
Sophomore Madison Phillips finished 54th, shooting a 207. Senior Madalyn Cook shot a 227 which earned a finish at 73rd, and sophomore Madilynn Schubert finished 80th with a 254.

The team will be in great position to get back to the state championship tournament again next year as they will graduate only Madalyn Cook from this year’s state team.
