On Thursday, July 11, the First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon in partnership with the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks hosted the annual “Boots, Blood and Bandages” blood drive which brought attention to local first responders from the Mt. Vernon Police Department, Mt. Vernon Fire Department, and Lawrence County EMS and their “Bravery in Action”.
Participating donors were asked if they would like to vote for the Boots (Fire Department), Badges (Police) or Bandages (EMS). A total of 38 donors registered and the Community Blood Center was able to successfully collect a total of 30 pints of blood.
With the final vote tallied, the Mt. Vernon Police Department was named the winner of the competition between the local first responders, winning by just one vote.
