MVCT to perform "Crazy For You: The New Gershwin Musical"

In 1992, the Gershwin brothers, composer George and lyricist Ira, released a new Broadway musical called Crazy for You. But…didn’t the Gershwins die decades ago? Well, yes, but even though George and Ira have been gone for a long time, their music lives on. Film buffs will recognize their songs from Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly movies, and music lovers will recognize An American in Paris, Rhapsody in Blue, and Porgy and Bess as some of the seminal works of 20th century American music.
In “Crazy for You: The New Gershwin Musical,” playwright Ken Ludwig has crafted a charming comedy and filled it chock full of the Gershwins’ greatest hits. In addition to the amazing songs, the play has showgirls, gunfights, real historical figures, and some of the cleverest humor this side of Deadrock, Nev.
“This show will appeal to so many people,” says director Kaden Propps. “Crazy for You brings music from George and Ira Gershwin to the stage that many people have grown up listening to and puts it into a fun-filled show. The story will keep you laughing the entire time.”
Classic Gershwin hits in Crazy for You include “I Got Rhythm,” “They Can’t Take That Away from Me,” “Someone to Watch Over Me,” and “Nice Work if You Can Get It.”
Crazy for You will be performed July 18-19 at the MARC in Mt. Vernon, and July 20-21 at the PAC in Monett. Tickets are available at the MARC box office, or by calling David Kloppenborg at 417- 366-1995. Group rates are available.
