Work currently being done on the new Mt. Vernon city hall building should be complete and most city departments moved in by late spring or early summer of 2019.
Max Springer, Mt. Vernon city administrator, said a new roof is being installed on the building, located on the Mt. Vernon square at 109 Hickory, and some security renovations inside the building are also being done.
Springer said the building, which formerly housed Mid-Missouri Bank, will have 4,000 square feet more than the current city hall building, and there will also be more office space because of the building’s layout.
Additionally, the new building will be easier for those with physical disabilities to access.
When the building is ready, Springer said, the offices of the mayor, city clerk, city treasurer, Building and Code Enforcement, Zoning, Public Works, Utility Collections, city collector, Transportation and city administrator will all be transferred to the new city hall. At this time, he added, the city plans to keep the police department in its current location.
