Ron D. Smith

Ron D. Smith, 72, of Monett passed away June 17, 2021, following a sudden illness.   
Smith was born on Nov. 15, 1948 in Denison, Iowa, son of the late Lester and Doris (Wright) Smith. Smith graduated from Monett High School with the class of 1966 and furthered his education at Draughon’s Business College. On June 17, 1969, Smith enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country honorably and was discharged at the rank of Sergeant on March 22, 1973.
Smith retired as Vice-President of First State Bank of Purdy in 2015, after over 42 years in the banking industry. Throughout his working years, Smith was very giving of his time to several civic involvements and volunteer opportunities including the Monett Lions Club, where he regularly helped with the apple butter and barbeque chicken fund raisers. He was also a past-board member of the Monett Chamber of Commerce.
On Dec. 28, 1969 in Crane he married Sharon Kay Smith. To this union, they were blessed with two sons.
Smith is survived by his wife; sons, Scott (Karen) Smith and Brian (Carrie) Smith all of Monett; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Skip Smith, of Monett and a host of extended family and friends.
Friends paid their respects June 21, 2021. The family received friends for visitation Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Monett. Funeral services were held June 22, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church. Interment and military honors followed at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Monett. Memorials have been suggested to the First United Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
