Ronald Andrew Overeem

Ron Andrew Overeem, 84, passed away June 20, 2020, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield. He was born in Winfield, Kan. July 12, 1935. He was a 1953 graduate of Winfield High School. He attended Pittsburg State University, where he was a lineman for the Gorillas and ascended to the presidency of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.
After graduating in the spring of 1959 with a bachelor of science degree in engineering, he married Jane at the First Presbyterian Church of Zenith, Kan. He then went to work for the Gas Service Company, an organization from which he would retire at the level of superintendent 34 years later. He was transferred to Monett, where he would spend the rest of his life. Besides rounding out his career as a city utilities employee, he was a longtime active Kiwanis member, sold real estate for Century 21, served as Monett City and Parks Commissioner from 2000 to 2004, and energized the Monett/Purdy affiliate of Habitat for Humanity in a panoply of roles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Orval Overeem and Nona Fay Orr, and his twin brother, Donald Phillip Overeem.
A celebration of life service was held June 25, 2020, at the First Presbyterian Church in Monett. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Monett/Purdy Habitat for Humanity in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home.
