Shaddox sentenced to life without parole for murder of Hollister man

By Steve Chapman

A Branson woman will most likely spend the rest of her life in prison for the murder of a Hollister man. Brandy Shaddox, 40, was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Wednesday, Oct. 13, for the 2015 murder of Larry Adams, 72. Shaddox received an additional life sentence for first-degree assault, 20 years for armed criminal action, 15 years for kidnapping, and four years for forgery. All of the sentences are to run consecutively.
On Nov. 6, 2015, Shaddox, who had been living with Adams for three weeks, struck him with a flashlight and tied him hand and foot, and then abandoned him inside her car, leaving him without adequate shelter, clothing or medical treatment; he later died after being abandoned. Shaddox then continued to live in Adams’ home, drive his car, and wrote herself a check for $300. The check was dated eight days after Adams was reported missing.
Adams’ body was later discovered inside of Shaddox’s car at Walnut Shade. Taney County deputies interviewed Shaddox; she first told them that she’d sold her car for scrap, and she’d dropped Adams off at Branson Landing, where he was picked up by an unknown female. Shaddox also said Adams and the unidentified woman went to Columbia.
The deputies then told Shaddox her car had been located with Adams’ body inside of it, and she changed her story. She said someone she knew struck Adams with a Maglite flashlight, and they transported him to an abandoned home. She also said she went to check on him the next day, and he was still alive in the backseat of her vehicle, beaten badly and bleeding. She told the deputies that she got scared and told Adams that she was going to get help, but left and never returned.
Shaddox was convicted by an all-female jury at the Lawrence County Justice Center in Mt. Vernon; the crime occurred in Taney County, but the case was transferred to Lawrence County on a change of venue.
