Vera Doris (Hodde) Overall

Vera Doris (Hodde) Overall, age 98, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, went home to be with her precious Lord at 3:05 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood, Missouri. She was born October 4, 1923, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of George and Ethel (DeMott) Richmond. Vera graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1941 and was a homemaker for most of her life where she was very attentive to the needs of her four boys.
Vera was a devout Christian, taking Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age and sharing her faith the rest of her life. She began teaching Sunday School when she was 13 years old and taught it for most of her life. She was especially gifted with using flannel board characters to teach the lessons. She also hosted “Good News Club” meetings for neighborhood children as one of the ways for sharing her faith. She and her husband Ralph were active members of Kennewick Baptist Church in Kennewick, Washington before returning back to Missouri. She was a member of Verona Baptist Church and later joined Summit Baptist Church before becoming a founding member of Faith Baptist Church with her second husband Ray.
She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed preparing home grown meals for her family. She also enjoyed gardening, playing card games (especially Pinochle), but her greatest joy was spending time with her family bringing them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Vera loved reading God’s Word, highlighting and make notes in her Bible as she faithfully read through it each year. Her favorite Bible verse was Matthew 6:33. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” Jesus Christ was preeminent in her life as she had a deep love for her Savior and she would spend every day ‘Living for Jesus’.
Vera was united in marriage to Ralph B. Hodde on May 3, 1942 at Marionville, Missouri and he preceded her in death on June 22, 1979. She married Ray A. Overall, in August of 1980, in Mt. Vernon and he preceded her in death on August 9, 2004.
Vera is survived by four sons Ralph D. Hodde of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, John W. Hodde and his wife Rose of Vandalia, Missouri, Marvin L. Hodde of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Dr. Melvin D. Hodde and his wife Cheryl of Rawlins, Wyoming; three grandchildren Jeremiah Hodde and his wife Micah of Vandalia, Nathanial Hodde and his wife Amber of Mexico, Missouri, and Melissa Hodde of Curryville, Missouri; four great-grandchildren Joshua, Elizabeth, Hunter, and Stryker Hodde.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents George and Ethel Richmond; first husband Ralph Hodde and second husband Ray Overall; two sisters Betty Stearns and Retha Richmond; and two brothers Ed and Herbert Richmond.

Vernon, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, at Faith Baptist Church, 17310 Highway P, Verona, Missouri. Burial will follow at Summit Cemetery, northeast of Mt. Vernon.
