Victor John "Jack" Hoare

Victor John “Jack” Hoare, 97, of Monett, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022, while at the Granby House Nursing Home in Granby.
Hoare was born on Oct. 7, 1924 in Camelsdale, England, son of the late James and Louise Hoare. During his childhood, he helped his father in building caskets, as his father was a carpenter. Hoare also would, on occasion, be asked to assist on funerals. Some of his other childhood jobs included being a golf caddy and a hotel bellboy. At 15, he went into the British Army as a Boy Soldier. He ultimately served his country for eight years including during World War II.
After his military career, he moved to California where he became a business owner as he operated his own auto repair shop. Hoare was a very accomplished mechanic, as he had also worked for Carroll Shelby and the Shelby American Race Team. He was one of the lead engine mechanics, which in 1965, the Cobra won the world championship at Le Mans. He traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe with the race team. He had said, “Carroll Shelby always treated me right.”
Later in his life, he moved to Las Vegas where he ran a facility that mined minerals.
Hoare is survived by his son Louis Hoare, of Midway, Calif. and his daughter Annette Gironta of Long Beach, Calif.; his granddaughter and grandson. He also leaves three great-grandchildren; and his niece and nephew of England.  He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and David Hoare; four sisters, Lily, Pat, Winnie and Connie; and one brother, Donald. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the home of Jeff and Christie Myers, 392 N. Belaire St., Monett, MO 65708.
