Vurnona Toy

Vurnona Toy, age 87, of Paola, Kansas, formerly of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 11:44 p.m. on Monday, June 21, 2021, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas.  She was born March 4, 1934, in Bogard, Missouri, the daughter of Aubyn Earl and Mary Ella (Smith) Carter.
Vurnona was a 1952 graduate of Bogard High School and a 1956 graduate of Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri.  She was a veteran of the Air Force Civil Service and worked for the Hospital Administration for the Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon for 25 years.  She loved painting and traveling and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon.
On December 2, 1960, she married Ralph Raymond Toy, in Marceline, Missouri.  He preceded her in death on May 1, 2018.
Vurnona is survived by her daughter, Deanna French and her husband, Michael, of Paola, Kansas; two grandchildren, Lauren French-Daru and her husband, Jerry, of Olathe, Kansas and David French and his wife, Amber, of Paola, Kansas; six great-grandchildren, Matthew and William Daru and Noah, Nora, Nashton and Nixan French.
Vurnona was preceded in death by her parents, Aubyn and Mary, her husband, Ralph, and two sisters, Marion Austin, and Mary Lou Lewis.
A graveside service, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon, was held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021, at the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of Vurnona may be made payable to the Dementia Society of America, in care of the funeral home.
