Wilma Louise Callan

Wilma Louise Callan, 92, of Monett, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021, in the comfort of her home and with family at her side.
Callan was born on Sept. 20, 1929 in Monett, daughter of the late Hiram C. and Oma (Coffey) Drake.
Callan attended King’s Prairie Grade School and graduated from Monett High School with the class of 1948 and then furthered her education by taking numerous evening classes at Monett VoTech. She was employed by Jumping Jack Shoe from 1948 until her retirement in the early 1990’s.
Callan faithfully attended the Fundamental Methodist Church. In later years, Wilma and James returned to New Liberty Methodist Church, where she had attended in her childhood.
On Aug. 18, 1950, she married James Edward Callan. To this union, two sons were born. Callan and James were blessed with over 70 years together before his passing on Feb. 26, 2021. Callan and James were also blessed with being able to raise their grandson, John David, as one of their own sons.
Callan is survived by two sons, James E. Callan (Glenda) and John C. Callan, of Monett; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Francis Thomas, of Monett; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Callan was preceded in death by her husband, James; one brother, Gaylord “Sonny” Drake; and one sister, Sara Sue Luney.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021 at Buchanan Funeral Home. Chaplain Jack Betts officiated. Interment was in the King’s Prairie Cemetery with Pastor Nancy DeJager officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time.Memorial contributions have been requested to the King’s Prairie Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
