Harold R. Hohenfeldt

Harold Ralph Hohenfeldt, 88, of Kliever, passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2020, at
his home.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Lee Howe Hohenfeldt, of the home; four
children, Ralph (Delaine) Hohenfeldt, of Rolla; Vicki (Fred) Hale, of rural
Republic; Peggy Miller, of Auxvasse, and Dale (Tonya) Hohenfeldt, of
Rogersville, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and
friends.
Hohenfeldt was born in Delavan, Wisc., on Dec. 11, 1931, to Elmer and Lila
Hohenfeldt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
brothers, Vernon and Rodger Hohenfeldt, and sister, Caroline Davis. The
Hohenfeldt family moved from Wisconsin to South Dakota, and then to
southern Missouri where Mr. Hohenfeldt graduated from Senior (now Central)
High School.
Hohenfeldt met and married Georgia Lee Howe while both worked for the
Springfield newspaper, he as an advertising typesetter and she, a student at
Draughon Business College, worked as a news typesetter. Hohenfeldt
subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and the couple lived in various
places, including Warner Robbins Air Force Base, Georgia. From there, he was
sent to Japan where he was an aircraft mechanic.
After four years of service to his country, Hohenfeldt worked in a central
Missouri factory and a cement plant, before he went to barber college in
Kansas City. He worked as an independent barber for most of his working life,
first in Jefferson City, but for most years in Springfield.
In the mid-1970s, Mr. Hohenfeldt began attending night classes at Southwest
Missouri State University (now Missouri State University). After graduating with
a Bachelor of Science in Education, he taught industrial arts at Verona High
School for two years, then took a job with Boonville Public Schools in central
Missouri, near the home of his wife’s aged parents. He taught industrial arts
and computer technology classes at Laura Speed Elliott Middle School for
several years before retiring from education in 1999. He soon found himself
back behind a barber’s chair in California when a longtime friend, who wanted to semi-retire, asked him if he would work half a day. He worked several years
at that before retiring for good.
Hohenfeldt was a Christian, active in Southern Baptist churches wherever he
lived as song leader, Sunday School teacher and deacon. He also was a member
of Gideon International. And with the Prison Fellowship, he ministered to
prisoners at the Missouri State Penitentiary for several years.
