Linda Dorlene Swinney

Linda Dorlene Swinney, 82, of Mt. Vernon passed away Nov. 27, 2020, at the Mercy Hospital in Joplin. She was born March 12, 1938, in Greene County the daughter of Arthur and Norvel (Hendrickson) Swinney.
Swinney was a 1956 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and graduated from Southwest Missouri State in Springfield.  After school she moved to Denver, Colo. to take a position with Social Services, later moving to the Kansas City area to work in Social Services then back to Missouri to work as the Director of Social Services in Dade and St. Clair counties. She retired to the family farm in Mt. Vernon and was a member of the Mt. Vernon Nazarene Church.
 She is survived by her daughter, Alva Swinney of Mt. Vernon; brothers, Wesley (Verla) Swinney, and Stephen Douglas Swinney, both of Mt. Vernon and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Norman Dennie Swinney and an infant sister, Becky Swinney.
A visitation was held Dec. 2, 2020, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with a funeral service that followed in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be held at Johns Chapel Cemetery in Ash Grove.
