Joseph Dwight Shoemaker

Joseph Dwight (J.D.) Shoemaker, 74, passed away on Jan. 4, 2022. He was born to William Harold Shoemaker and Ava Elnora Shoemaker on May 31, 1947, in Aurora.
Shoemaker and Rosella were married Sept. 19, 1964, at First Freewill Baptist Church in Springfield. They welcomed Tony to the family on April 24, 1975.
Shoemaker had been involved with the Brookline volunteer fire department, serving as Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief.
He is preceded in death by his father William Harold Shoemaker; mother Ava Elnora Shoemaker; brothers, Robert, Billy, Glenn, Dale, Jim, and Charlie Shoemaker; and sister Marie Ragain.
He is survived by his wife Rosella; son Tony; brother: Gary (Connie) Shoemaker of Monett; sister Regina (Jay) Eicher of Mexico; sister-in-laws, Lola Shoemaker of Jonesboro, Ark., Clara Shoemaker of Aurora, Judy Shoemaker of Brookline, Janet (Alvin) Hook of Galena, and Dene (Roy) Leigh; a multitude of nieces and nephews.
There was a funeral service for Shoemaker at 10 a.m on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at First Freewill Baptist Church. A visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
The family requests that donations be made the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
