Della Mae Shaffer

Della Mae Shaffer, 81, of Sarcoxie passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the Sarcoxie Nursing Center.
Shaffer was born on June 8, 1940 in Newton County to the union of the late George Lee and Ida Mae (Presley) Hilker. She graduated in 1959 from Midway High School. On March 16, 1961 she was united in marriage to James C. Shaffer. Together they shared 45 years until his passing on May 2, 2006. She was a wonderful homemaker as well as an excellent caregiver. She was a member of New Fairview Baptist Church, where she was very active. For several years she did volunteer work for the Sarcoxie Nursing Center and the Sarcoxie Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James C. Shaffer; siblings, Alice Hains, Larry Pat Hilker and Jackie Ray Hilker.
Shaffer is survived by her sister, Mary Lee Oates, of Pierce City; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Graveside funeral services for Shaffer were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at the Sarcoxie Cemetery with Pastor Marvin Hensley officiating. The family has requested memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
