Karyl Sue Vermillion

Karyl Sue Vermillion, 72, of Monett passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Oak Pointe in Neosho. She was born in Monett, on Dec. 18, 1953; daughter of Curtis and Betty Jean (Belch) Kelly.

She was a 1972 graduate of Pierce City High School. She obtained a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Missouri Southern State University (MSSU). She married Jim Vermillion on Friday, June 23, 1978, in Monett. She retired as a kindergarten teacher from Cassville School District. Later, she taught first grade at Berean Christian Academy in Monett. She was a lifelong Democrat. She was active in the National Education Association (NEA) while teaching. She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband Jim, who is in the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon; one daughter, Krista Vermillion of Springfield; one brother, Kerry (Stacy) Kelly, of Jenks, Okla; one sister, Kathy (John Dawson) Conley, of Pierce City. She is preceded in death by Curtis and Betty Jean Kelly.

The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City.

Funeral services were at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, on Saturday, May 16, 2026, with Chaplain Robert Mattingly officiating. Burial was at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.

Memorials may be made to the Pierce City backpack program in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City.
