Betty Lou Bastian

Betty Lou Bastian was born December 20, 1942, in Sweet Springs, Missouri to Homer Wesley and Alverna Anna (Knopf) Bastian. The first eleven years of her life were spent on a farm near Alma, Missouri. Her father came down with Rheumatic Fever and could no longer work on the farm, and they moved to Kansas City, Missouri.
Betty attended Paseo High School, Kansas City Junior College, and Trinity Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at Hartzfeld’s, a ladies clothing store at the Independence Blue Ridge Store where she met James Lee Gordon, her future husband, and they were married on August 4, 1962.
They lived in Liberty, Missouri 1963-1989, Lee’s Summit, Missouri 1989-1992 and on a farm north of Aurora, Missouri 1992-2021, and in Springfield, Missouri since 2021.
Betty was a Floor nurse at North Kansas City Hospital, Head Nurse at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Missouri and Director of Nursing at the Lawrence County Manor and Residential Care Facility in Mount Vernon, Missouri.
Betty is survived by her husband, James Lee Gordon; two children, Mark (wife Jane) Gordon, and Michelle (husband Jeff) Ehrenreich; four grandchildren, McKinsey Christopher, Bran-don (wife Jackie) Christopher, Shelby Gordon (husband Mike Reynosa) and Garrett Gordon (wife Cece) and several great-grandchildren. She has relatives in Sweet Springs and Concordia, Missouri area.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Alverna Bastian and her son, Matt Douglas Gordon that died at birth.
A funeral service under the direction of Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, Missouri will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Aurora. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.
