Mt. Vernon sophomore Sadie Heisner qualified in four events, the 100m hurdles, the pole vault, long jump and triple jump, for the Class 3 state track championships, which were held Saturday, May 25, in Columbia.

When two tornadoes touched down near Miller on April 30, the tornado warning sirens failed to work because the first tornado knocked out the town’s electricity, and the sirens had no other source of power. Fortunately, no one was hurt by either tornado.

A Mt. Vernon woman received two five-year prison sentences after pleading guilty to having sexual intercourse with two boys under the age of 17. Amanda Morton, 35, was sentenced on Tuesday, May 14, at the Lawrence County Justice Center.
