What a turnaround it has been for the Lady Mt’neers already. After dropping their first six games of the year and tying game No. 7, Mt. Vernon has rattled off six straight wins after defeating East Newton on Monday, in straight sets.

The Mt. Vernon Mt’neers won their second victory of the season as they defeated the Monett Cubs in a weather-delayed game that started on Thursday, Sept. 1, and concluded on Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Burl Fowler Stadium in Monett.

Despite rumors of Miller volleyball being diminished, they dominated at the Verona Invitational Tournament for a seventh straight year as they went 6-0 without losing a single set.

Zack Klein was one of the all-time greats during his stint as a Mt’neer basketballer from 2006-2010. Now, he will find his home about 25 minutes east in the halls of Clever High School as the new head coach for the Bluejays.

Miller basketball was placed in great hands the last few years when Sean Price came to lead the Cardinals back in 2020. The defense-minded coach led the Cardinals to a 21-8 season in the 2020-2021 season that saw Miller win their first district championship in 10 years.

Action is picking up across the state on the diamond, but it was just as hot at the track and field state championships as four Miller Cardinals led the county. Aurora and Mt. Vernon both added two athletes in the class three competition. Mt. Vernon
