The Lady Mt’neers won their first game of 2024 Friday night in part of a super night with Lamar thanks to 10 second-half points from junior Cheyenne Bieber.

In the second game of the night it was the boys time to go at it. Chase Querry started things off for the Tigers getting a bucket early before Mt. Vernon answered with a bucket from Juliun Hernandez and a three from Jarrett Zerby to take a 6-4 lead.

Miller was busy the last couple weeks as they competed in perhaps the best small school tournament in the entire state at the Morris Brothers Holiday Classic in Walnut Grove.

The Mt. Vernon Mt’neers have historically experienced great success in the Greenwood Blue & Gold Tournament, however, recent history has not been as kind. The Mt’neers have not won a game in the tournament since they won the consolation championship over Buffalo in the 2020 tournament.

12/28/23 Update:
Day 2 of the Blue and Gold tournament saw the elimination of the Mt. Vernon boys team from the Gold Consolation bracket and Aurora beat out Camdenton to hold on for atleast one more day of competition in the Blue Consolation bracket.

The Miller Lady Cardinals have done something for the first time since 2014 and they hope to not do it again anytime soon. They have lost four games in a row.

Big 8 play opened Tuesday night in Cassville as the Lady Mt’neers looked to knock off the Lady Wildcats. The Lady Cats were going to have to do it without a pair of starters in junior guard Kyler Hayward and Aubrey Stoufer.

The Mt. Vernon Mt’neers 2023 football season came to an end a little sooner than they would have liked. The Seneca Indians defeated the Mt’neers, 49-21, at Tom Hodge Field at Seneca High School in the Class 3, District 6 championship game on Friday, Nov. 10.
