In its sixth year, the Mt. Vernon Turkey Strut drew in 285 participants, not including pets, to the Mt. Vernon square Thanksgiving morning. Proceeds from

The city of Mt. Vernon will sell 115 acres of city land located on Highway 39, just north of Highway 174, to Wilmoth Oil Company at a price of $4,550 per acre, or $523,250 total. The Mt. Vernon Board of Aldermen approved the bid by Wilmoth during their meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

The Mt. Vernon Community Betterment Council has announced their first annual Christmas Decorating Contest. The categories will include: the Griswold Award for individual home, Village of Lights for neighborhood, and Local Lights for businesses.
