The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office issued zero motorists for not wearing seat belts during the Nov. 8, Click It or Ticket mobilization. Law enforcement agencies throughout Missouri participated in this statewide effort to get more motorists to buckle up and save more lives.

Veterans and their families treated to parade, lunch, free concert
Mt. Vernon-area veterans were celebrated with a special luncheon and concert on the Mt. Vernon city square Saturday, Nov. 10. About 250 veterans and their family members attended.

During the recent “Celebration of Schools” event, held Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Missouri Southern State University, teachers and community members were recognized for their hard work and dedication to our local schools.

The Aurora City Council declined, during their meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 23, to allow residents to drive golf carts on city streets. The issue had been put on the agenda after two Aurora residents requested permission to do so during the meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

Work currently being done on the new Mt. Vernon city hall building should be complete and most city departments moved in by late spring or early summer of 2019.
