On Saturday, Dec. 16, Mt. Vernon Police Department participated in their annual “Shop with a Cop” event. Eleven families (21 children total) from the Mt. Vernon and Verona school districts were chosen to participate in this year’s event.

On Thursday, Dec. 7, Mt. Vernon High School senior Kenadi Killingsworth signed her national letter of intent to continue her academic and golf career as a State Fair Community College Roadrunner.

Hardy Carl, a resident of Mt. Vernon, has been honored at the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum for his service flying an F-4 Phantom in the Vietnam War. The ceremony, which was held in Honolulu, Hawaii, honored Carl and 10 others for their aerial service in the Pacific Wars over the years.

Conner Anderson, who is facing criminal charges in Christian and Greene counties regarding his alleged violations of a protection order he was served with earlier this year, is no longer employed at the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO). His last day of employment was Wednesday, Nov.

Every child under the age of five in the state of Missouri can now receive free books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, thanks to recently passed legislation which is funding the distribution of the books to the children across the state.
